Mainland China share market finished session marginally higher on Thursday, 28 September 2023, as investors' largely opted sideline on caution ahead of the week-long National Day holiday.
China's a week-long National Day holiday will begin on Friday. Mainland markets would reopen on Oct. 9.
At close of trade, the benchmark Shanghai Composite index was up 0.1%, or 3.16 points, to 3,110.48. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, added 0.44%, or 8.31 points, to 1,910.28. The blue-chip CSI300 index decreased by 0.3%, or 10.98 points, to 3,689.52.
CURRENCY NEWS: China's yuan was up against the dollar on Wednesday despite softer mid-point fixing by the central bank. Prior to market opening, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) set the midpoint rate CNY=PBOC at 7.1798 per U.S. dollar, down 81 pips from the previous fix of 7.1717. In the spot market, the onshore yuan CNY=CFXS was last changing hands at 7.3002 at on Thursday, 128 pips firmer than the previous late night close of 7.3130.
