The Singapore stock market finished choppy session lower on Wednesday, 27 September 2023, on tracking broadly negative cues from global markets overnight, with traders remaining cautious after the US Fed recently forecast another rate hike before the end of the year and keeping rates at elevated levels for longer than previously anticipated.

At closing bell, the Straits Times Index (STI) index was down 15.04 points, or 0.47%, to 3,200.03 after trading between 3,184.78 and 3,200.84. Volume of 1.29 billion shares worth S$876.94 miillion changed hands. There were 255 gainers and 258 decliners.

The top gainer on the STI was Jardine Cycle & Carriage, which rose 1.6% or S$0.51 to S$32.49. At the bottom of the index was Venture Corporation, which lost 2.2% or S$0.28 to end the day at S$12.69.

Sharers of local lenders were lower. UOB fell 0.56% to S$28.24, while OCBC Bank shed 0.1% to S$12.75 and DBS sank 0.24% to S$33.43.
